Sheikh Waqas Akram is the PTI’s choice to be the PAC chairman.
As its choice for the crucial position of Public Accounts Committee chairman, the PTI has chosen Sheikh Waqas Akram. The announcement of the name would follow more deliberation with the party leadership, according to PTI spokesperson Rauf Hassan.
As a result of the development, Akram expressed his gratitude to Imran Khan, the founder chairman of the PTI, and the party leadership for selecting him in accordance with Khan’s directives on his X account.
The PTI, he said, was currently the target of political retaliation. Nevertheless, history would never forget those who defended genuine freedom and the rule of law, he continued.
Earlier, Sher Afzal Marwat was nominated as the PAC chairman by the PTI, while Sahibzada Hamid Raza of the Sunni Ittehad Council was also considered at one point.
During a meeting with the speaker of the National Assembly in late April, SIC members Zain Qureshi, Marwat, and Hamid Raza talked about matters pertaining to the establishment of parliamentary committees. The opposition gave Hamid Raza’s name to the speaker for the chairmanship of the PAC, according to officials.
Lawmakers from the opposition were informed by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq that the office-bearer would be chosen in accordance with the constitution. “I desire for the parliamentary committees to settle the matter via comprehension,” he exclaimed to the lawmakers.
Previously, Sher Afzal Marwat’s name had been confirmed as the PAC chairman, according to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, at a media appearance on April 30.
