Supreme Court reverses LHC ruling, reinstates three PML-N MNAs
The candidates Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Abdul Rehman Kanju, and Zulfikar Ahmed of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were restored as National Assembly members by the highest court.
With a majority vote of 2-1, a three-person bench led by Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, declared the reserved verdict. The ruling was not approved by Justice Aqeel Abbasi.
After a recount, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had declared them the winners. The PML-N leaders had petitioned the Supreme Court (SC) to overturn the LHC ruling.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) contested the results of the recount before the LHC, disputing the ECP’s declaration of the PML-N candidates as the winners.
Notably, during the February election, concerns were voiced in NA 154 Lodhran, NA 81 Gujranwala, and NA 79 Gujranwala.
As PTI had contested the ECP’s ruling, this development represents a serious setback.
