The appointment of Lieutenant General Munir Afsar to the position of NADRA chief is overturned by the LHC.

The petition that challenged the appointment of NADRA chairman was granted by the court according to the details, and the court ruled in favour of the petitioner.

Following the hearing of arguments from both parties, Justice Asim Hafeez of the Lahore High Court finally rendered the ruling. As a woman, the petitioner had contested the nomination of Lieutenant General Retired Munir Afsar as Chairman of the NADRA, arguing that the appointment was both unlawful and in violation of the constitution.

The appointment of Lieutenant General Munir Afsar to the position of Chairman of the National Database and Regulatory Authority took place on October 2 of the previous year.

The nomination of Lieutenant General Munir Afsar as Chairman of the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) was authorised by the federal cabinet. This was one of the three choices that were suggested by the Ministry of Interior.

The selection committee notified the cabinet that they had narrowed down the names of the three most qualified applicants for the position of Chairman of the NADRA.

The selection of Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar as the new Chairman of NADRA was approved by the government after going through a thorough deliberation process.

Following his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Tariq Malik, who was serving as the head of NADRA at the time, made the decision to retire from his position and formally offered his resignation. This led to the appointment being handed down.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking into allegations that Tariq Malik was involved in a scandal involving widespread corruption.

In the government that was led by the PTI, Malik was given the position of chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on June 21. However, in the past, he also served as Nadra’s chief.
