The CEC should be prosecuted under Article 6. Yasmin Rashid
Dr. Yasmin Rashid, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, demanded strict penalties for the Chief Election Commissioner, accusing him of unlawfully taking the party’s authority. She proposed that he should be prosecuted under Article 6.
Dr. Yasmin stated at a media engagement at the anti-terrorism court that their authority had been unlawfully taken away. According to her, the victorious MPAs and MNAs were ousted from power through the manipulation of elections in order to establish a new government.
The ex-provincial minister also voiced apprehension about the resurgence of May 9 instances, wherein their supporters were apprehended several months after engaging in peaceful demonstrations. She characterized the cases as unfair and specifically aimed at political activists.
She emphasized the peaceful right of political parties to protest, contrasting it with previous political marches. Leaders such as Bilawal Bhutto, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) organized and participated in extended protest marches without facing any arrests throughout the time of the PTI.
In addition, Dr. Yasmin Rashid highlighted the fact that Maryam Nawaz was released from incarceration after a duration of three and a half months, in contrast to the PTI ladies, who served a prison sentence of 11 months.
