The designs for Pakistan’s new banknotes have been revealed after being selected as finalists.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has revealed the selected designs for a next series of currency notes, with denominations ranging from Rs10 to Rs5,000. These notes are scheduled to be released by the end of this year.
The central bank conveyed its gratitude for the ingenuity demonstrated by local artists who took part in the competition. It also stated that the newly created designs are presently being evaluated by international designers, who will ultimately determine the final look of the new banknotes.
The SBP will guarantee that the new banknote series accurately represents our country’s diverse cultural legacy and forward-thinking vision. The SBP expressed their expectation that the final designs will accurately represent the joint effort.
The chosen designs, which showcase notable personalities like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Fatima Jinnah, will undergo additional refinement.
International designers will collaborate closely with the SBP, deriving inspiration from the local contributions, while also having the artistic autonomy to apply their experience in the final implementation.
The victors of the competition will be awarded monetary rewards as a token of appreciation for their participation. The SBP will provide information on the award event at the appropriate time.
Announcement of artists and awards
The SBP also announced the winners of the competition, with some artists achieving high positions for their exceptional submissions. Dr. Shery Abidi won the first prize for designing the Rs 10 currency, and Mr. Mirza Sufiyan received the second medal. Additional noteworthy recipients include Mr. Haroon Khan, who was awarded the prize for the Rs 20 note, and Ms. Memoona Afzal, who achieved the top honour for both the Rs 100 and Rs 5,000 notes.
