The ECL has erased Shibli Faraz’s name, IHC informed

The name of the PTI leader has been taken off the PCL and ECL, according to Assistant Attorney General Shaista Khalid, who appeared before the court.

It was reported to the court that Home Ministry representatives are en route to attend court, but they are backed up by traffic since the federal capital’s routes are blocked.

Once the IHC order regarding the removal of Shibli Faraz’s name was put into effect, the court dropped the contempt plea at this point.

Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shibli Faraz, had his name removed from the Exit Control List by an earlier order from the Islamabad High Court.

Faraz’s name was removed from the ECL due to insufficient reasons from the home ministry and DG passport, which led to the court’s ruling.

Within a week, Faraz’s name was to be taken off the ECL by the appropriate authorities, under an IHC directive. The secretary of the home ministry would be called to give an explanation if the injunction is not followed, the court further warned.

With his attorney present, Shibli Faraz appeared in court. Faraz’s name was still listed on the ECL despite the court’s previous decisions, so it asked why. Since Faraz is a member of parliament, his attorney claimed that his client shouldn’t be given any special treatment.

The authorities are acting inconsistently, the IHC noted, rather than taking action to remove Faraz’s name from the ECL. The court said that it was unhappy that its previous instructions had not been obeyed and threatened to take harsh measures if they were not.
