The government is seeking a definitive solution during an in-camera national security conference today.

An in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security is scheduled to take place at Parliament House on Tuesday.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, has summoned a meeting at the behest of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif following the increase in terrorist occurrences, particularly the Jaffar Express disaster.

A detailed briefing on the nation’s security status will be provided to the committee members.

The military chiefs will also engage and inform the committee with the security situation and level of preparedness.

Parliamentary leaders from all political parties, excluding the opposition, will participate in the meeting. Members of the Cabinet will also attend the meeting.

Security measures have been implemented at the Parliament House and surrounding areas for the crucial conference, anticipated to produce a definitive action plan to combat terrorism.

RESISTANCE TO AVOIDANCE

The opposition alliance, comprising the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), has declared a boycott of the meeting.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai (PkMAP), Sahibzada Hamid Raza (SIC), Allama Nasir Abbas (MWM), and Sardar Akhtar Mengal (BNP-M) will abstain from the meeting in protest of their disagreements with the government.

WILL PTI ATTEND THE CRUCIAL MEETING?

The political committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stipulated that a meeting with party founder Imran Khan is a must for participation in the security session.

Previously, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan penned a letter to NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, urging him to facilitate a meeting between party leaders and Imran Khan.

Sources indicated that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and multiple other leaders supported attending the session, while Junaid Akbar advocated for consultation with the PTI founder.

The PTI presented a roster of 14 individuals to the National Assembly speaker for a meeting with Imran Khan.

The individuals include Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, Zartaj Gul, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Amir Dogar, Sanaullah Mastikhel, Ali Muhammad Khan, and Senators Ali Zafar, Humayun Muhammad, and Aon Abbas Buppi.
