The government of Pakistan announces the Zakat threshold for 2024.
The Pakistani Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection has published the 2024 Zakat guidelines.
The government has established the Zakat threshold for the current year at Rs 135,179, according to the official notice. Zakat deduction will apply to those who own PLS or savings accounts with balances of at least this amount.
To help people with smaller savings, those whose account balances as of the first of Ramadan are less than Rs 135,179 would not be subject to Zakat deductions.
Zakat is an obligatory charitable giving for Muslims who fulfill certain financial requirements. As one of the Five Pillars of Islam, it is necessary to carry out one’s religious duties. On the first day of Ramadan, anyone whose savings or PLS accounts reach or above the threshold amount must give Zakat, which is usually 2.5% of the total amount.
