The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa opposition is split on a joint candidate for chief minister.

Following the resignation of PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur, the opposition parties in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have been unable to reach a consensus on a joint nominee for chief minister.

According to sources, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) is actively seeking to propose its own candidate, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) wants to nominate its own candidate. To foster agreement among the opposition parties, political leaders have stepped up their efforts.

The opposition leader is anticipated to speak with important JUI-F leaders on Thursday (today), according to sources. The opposition leader had also conferred with Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman and the governor the day before.

The provincial assembly’s opposition leader suggested that all parties nominate a single candidate in unanimity.

The members and leaders of the PTI legislature have been summoned to the Chief Minister’s House this evening by departing Chief Minister Gandapur.

He was supposed to return to his hometown of Dera Ismail Khan yesterday, but close friends and family suggested that he postpone his trip. Following his remarks today, a formal farewell is now anticipated.

On the recommendation of Imran Khan, the party’s original chairman, Gandapur submitted his resignation. Salman Akram Raja, the secretary-general of the PTI, said that Gandapur had resigned and that Suhail Afridi had been named the new chief minister.
