The new 5GB limit on Snapchat: How to protect your memories

Snapchat, a famous messaging and content-sharing app with more than 450 million daily users, has announced a big change: Memories will now only have 5GB of free storage.

Users that go over this limit will have to pay for plans or risk deleting their most recent Snaps.

New Paid Plans Are Here

Snapchat has added a few premium alternatives to keep more storage:

$1.99 a month for 100GB

$3.99 a month for 250GB (for Snapchat+ members)

5TB for $15.99 a month for Snapchat Platinum users

If users don’t update, their newer Snaps will be erased automatically, but their older Memories will still be available until their total storage reaches the limit.

Snapchat states that users will have a year to back up or delete their data before the policy goes into effect.

How to Save Snapchat Memories to Your Camera Roll

A lot of people are now moving their Memories straight to their phone’s camera roll. This is a safe but time-consuming way to keep their Snaps.

This is how to accomplish it:

Tap the Memories icon after opening Snapchat.

You can choose up to 100 Memories (the most you can choose at once).

Click Download after Export.

Do this over and over until all of your Memories are stored.

Snapchat only lets you export 100 Memories at a time, so people with big archives may need to do it numerous times to finish.

Use Snapchat’s “Download My Data” tool for a quicker way.

Snapchat has a “Download My Data” option that delivers your complete archive as a .zip file via email for people who wish to back up everything at once.

How to utilise this tool:

Click on your Profile and then Settings.

Choose My Data.

Check Memories and choose both the HTML and JSON formats.

Select “All Time” as the range for the export.

Check your email and then click Submit.

Depending on how big your Snapchat archive is, the delivery time will be different. But once you get it, you’ll have a full backup of your Snaps outside of the app.
