The president of LCCI requests a reduction in electricity rates.
In an effort to revive the faltering economy, the president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has urged the government to reduce electricity prices by 25%.
According to LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad, the nation’s economy has suffered greatly as a result of the costly electricity, since production costs have also gone up.
The president of the LCCI declared, “IPPs are looting Pakistan with both hands,” adding that the Rs. 19 per unit capacity prices are unfair to the people of Pakistan.
In order to allow the economy to recover, Abuzar Shad pushed the government to reduce power tariffs by 25%.
He also added pricey electricity is also harming Pakistan’s exports.
The standing committee on power of the National Assembly had already discussed the process for identifying the lifeline and safeguarding consumers.
Sher Ali Arbab, a PTI MNA, expressed dissatisfaction at the sending of a junior officer to represent the regulator NEPRA instead of Chairman Waseem Mukhtar.
The Secretary of the Power Division stated that all information had been sent to the NA body in the reply and that the committee had not called the Chairman of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
The secretary stated, “The NA committee may call the chairman Nepra at its next meeting if it so chooses.”
An official from Nepra stated that “all details of government contracts with the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have been provided to the NA body.”
