The prime minister praises Azerbaijan’s moral position on Jammu and Kashmir.

Azerbaijan’s consistent position on the Jammu and Kashmir issue and the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, as guaranteed by the pertinent UN Security Council resolutions, was praised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.

From February 24–25, 2025, the prime minister visited Azerbaijan as part of a state visit at President Ilham Aliyev’s invitation.

PM Shehbaz was received at the Zugulba Palace by President Ilham Aliyev on 24 February 2025. During their detailed interaction, the two sides discussed areas of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation and expressed the desire to further foster collaboration across multiple sectors. Azerbaijan’s President accepted the Prime Minister’s invitation to visit Pakistan in April 2025 to sign various important agreements.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the gradual expansion and strengthening of the close friendship and reiterated their commitment to the strategic partnership between the two nations.

They also emphasized the significance of investigating collaborative investment projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, investment, and connectivity, as well as the necessity of significantly expanding bilateral trade and investment. In cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO), the Prime Minister attended a Business Forum. In addition to highlighting the implementation of the Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) and the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), the Prime Minister also mentioned the February 12, 2025, opening of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Pakistan.

The two leaders also conveyed their satisfaction with the two nations’ active cooperation in multilateral fora, particularly the OIC and the UN.

President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif saw the signing of several memorandums of understanding and agreements to advance collaboration in various fields.

Additionally, the Prime Minister placed a wreath at Victory Park and the Alley of Honors, which serve as memorials for the Second Karabagh War fatalities. He reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast backing for Azerbaijan’s

initiatives to support stability and peace in the South Caucasus.
The visit underscored the deep-rooted, historic and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and reaffirmed the commitment of the leadership of both countries to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.
