The SHC postpones the appeals hearing in the Murtaza Bhutto murder case.
In the murder case, the high court heard appeals from the state and Noor Muhammad, Murtaza Bhutto’s servant.
Defense attorneys notified Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto’s bench that Wajid Durrani and Rai Tahir, the accused former police officers, were ill and were unable to attend the case hearing.
The attorney for Shoaib Suddle, an additional defendant in the case, informed the court that his client has been assigned a task by the Supreme Court. The court questioned, “If the Supreme Court has assigned him an assignment, he will not appear in court.”
Lawyers for Shahid Hayat, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, Agha Mohammad Jameel, and Masood Sharif informed the court that some of the case’s suspects had passed away.
The high court delivered a show-cause notice to him for neglecting to provide a report regarding the case’s expired accused, expressing displeasure with SSP East’s lack of compliance.
Justice Phulpoto noted that the appeals in the Murtaza Bhutto murder case had been pending since 2010.
The appellate panel of the high court postponed the next round of hearings until November 7.
In 2010, a high court appeal was filed by Noor Muhammad, the personal servant of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, against the acquittal of the suspects in the high-profile killing that occurred on September 20, 1996, 28 years ago, during a police encounter near Do Talwar in Karachi.
