The Sindh government says it would impose high fines on anybody who break traffic laws.

The Sindh government has changed the Twelfth Schedule under Section 121-A of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965 to make traffic breaches in the province more serious by adding high fines and demerit points. Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Senior Sindh Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, said in a statement that people who break the law by speeding, running a red light, driving the wrong way, overloading, or driving without a license will face strict punishment. The new list raises fines based on the type of vehicle, such as motorcycles, cars, jeeps, public service vehicles, and heavy cargo. He claimed that motorbikes that go too fast will be fined Rs 5,000, cars will be fined Rs 15,000, and big vehicles will be fined Rs 20,000. They will also lose eight points. Sharjeel Memon added that anybody who drive without a license will have to pay a fee of up to Rs 50,000 and get six demerit points. A punishment of Rs 25,000 and eight points will be given for driving recklessly. One-wheeling, riding a motorcycle without a helmet, using tinted windows, driving in the incorrect lane, and transporting passengers on the roof will also result in heavy penalties. He claimed that these steps were made to protect lives and make the roads safer. He says that the government’s goal is not just to collect penalties, but also to keep people safe.
