The Supreme Court suspends the Election Commission of Pakistan’s order to disqualify MNA Adil Bazai.
A three-member Supreme Court bench, led by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, postponed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s judgment and reinstated Adil Bazai as a member of the National Assembly till December 12.
The ECP disqualified the MNA for floor crossing after a reference submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif.
Adil Bazai, an independent candidate from Quetta, initially presented an affidavit aligning with the PML-N but subsequently changed his allegiance to the Sunni Ittehad Council a few days later.
At the hearing, the MNA’s attorney asserted that his PML-N membership affidavit was fraudulent. Nawaz Sharif’s attorney contended that Bazai’s conduct contravened the constitution, specifically on the finance bill and the voting on constitutional amendments.
Running as an independent candidate, Bazai was proclaimed the victor of NA-262 (Quetta) and thereafter listed on the National Assembly’s website as a member of the PML-N.
Adil Bazai consistently refuted claims of joining the PML-N on social media platforms.
The PML-N reference stated that the party’s lawmaker, the MNA, has turned a dissident. Nawaz Sharif, in his petition, requested the election authority to remove Bazai from his position.
