The Tajir Dost programme was extended to 42 cities in Pakistan.

The programme, which was previously restricted to six major cities, is now available in the following locations: Abbottabad, Attock, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Chakwal, Dera Ismail Khan, Faisalabad, Ghotki, Gujarat, Gwadar, Hafizabad, Haripur, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Karachi, Kasur, Khushab, Lahore, Larkana, Lasbela, Lodhran, Mandi Bahauddin, Mansehra, Mardan, Mirpurkhas, Multan, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Sukkur, and Toba Tek Singh.

The new Tajir Dost Special Services Rules 2024 have been published in a notification by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The purpose of these regulations is to enhance trader compliance and registration.

A monthly advance tax of between Rs. 100 and Rs. 1,000 is demanded of traders under the system, based on the FBR’s assessment of the fair market worth of their stores.

This guarantees an equitable and transparent tax system, encouraging tax collection and formalisation among traders.

The strategic expansion of the government is intended to improve tax compliance, boost economic activity, and achieve IMF reform goals. The project aims to bring more traders into the formal economy by including additional cities, which will promote economic growth and stability in general.
