The UN urged for calm and restraint on all parties and expressed regret over the bloodshed in Pakistan’s ongoing opposition protests.
“The Secretary-General continues to closely follow the situation in Pakistan, including reports on the ongoing protests and the deployment of the military,” his spokesperson said in a statement.
Five security people have reportedly been murdered during the violent protests that started on Sunday, according to media sources.
According to the spokeswoman, “the Secretary-General also calls for the authorities to uphold the right to peaceful assembly and the right to freedom of expression.”
