Today marks Major Aziz Bhatti’s 60th anniversary of martyrdom.

Today (Friday), the nation commemorates the 58th anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti’s sacrifice. On September 12, 1965, he gave his life in defense of the nation.

In 1928, he was born in Hong Kong. He relocated to the village of Ladian in the Gujrat region of Pakistan before to its independence in 1947.

He joined the recently established Pakistani Army there, and in 1950 he received a commission in the Punjab Regiment.

As Company Commander in the Burki area of the Lahore sector, Major Bhatti decided to move with his forward platoon under constant artillery and tank attacks for five days and nights in order to defend the vital BRB canal on September 6, 1965, following India’s attack on Pakistan with the greatest number of tanks ever.

Despite the persistent fire from enemy tanks and artillery, he managed to organize the defense of the canal and ordered his men to respond to the fire until he was killed on September 12, 1965, by an enemy tank shell.

His age was 37. For his services to Pakistan, Raja Aziz Bhatti received the esteemed Nishan-e Haidar.
