An apex court hearing is reportedly considering the cases of six judges from the Lahore High Court (LHC), including Chief Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed, and three justices from the Sindh High Court, including Chief Justice Aqeel Abbasi.

Judge appointments to the SC and HC are recommended by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), an upper body. There are now fourteen judges serving in the SC.

Its members are the two most senior chief justices of the high courts, the two most senior judges of the Supreme Court, and CJP, who serves as chairman.

As its secretary, the Registrar of the Pakistani Supreme Court does this job. After the President refers a case to the Supreme Judicial Council, the Council looks into the subject and reports back to the President with its findings.

The President may issue an order for the removal of a judge if the council determines that the judge is unethical or incapable of carrying out his or her duties and should be removed from office.

Only the designated reasons and the established process may be used to remove a judge from office.
