Matthew Miller said, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to those impacted,” during the weekly news briefing, expressing his sadness over the deaths and injuries received.
We support freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association in Pakistan and around the world, he said in answer to a query on protests in Pakistan.
“We demand that protestors demonstrate nonviolently and abstain from using violence, and we demand that Pakistani authorities uphold the country’s laws, constitution, and human rights while also striving to keep law and order.” said Miller.
A suicide bombing attack on a truck carrying Chinese nationals occurred in Karachi earlier on Sunday night, leaving at least three persons dead and seventeen injured.
The suicide bomber was waiting for the Chinese convoy to approach near Jinnah airport, according to the preliminary investigation, before carrying out the attack.
Investigators said that “the terrorist hit the foreign nationals’ car with the explosive-laden vehicle, causing massive destruction and damage to several nearby cars.”

Rescue personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion and were able to securely remove one of the foreigners’ cars.
In order to support the inquiry, authorities are currently attempting to get the engine chassis number and the car’s number plate.
