WAPDA files lawsuits against housing organizations that use its name improperly.
In order to stop cooperative housing societies from using the Water and Power Development Authority’s name in an improper manner, legal action has been taken by the authority.
In an announcement released on Wednesday, the power development authority stated that in an effort to stop this activity, they have been contacting all available legal channels, such as the FIA and Registrar Cooperative Housing Societies.
The statement reads as follows: WAPDA, a statutory body corporate founded under the WAPDA Act 1958, formally renounces any affiliation, association, or connection to any cooperative housing society, with the exception of WAPDA Town Cooperative Housing Society (Phase I and II), located in Lahore, which is permitted to do business under the WAPDA name.
Therefore, using a registered name—the Power Development Authority—illegally and for other housing societies or projects by any other organization or individual is tantamount to committing a flagrant misleading.
The statement also states that the power development authority cannot be held accountable for any obligations that the public may raise as a result of investing in such rogue, illegal, and unlawful societies.
Housing societies that are using the name WAPDA in an unauthorized and illegal manner are: Employees Cooperative Society, Islamabad; Employees Cooperative Society Ltd; Employees Cooperative Society, Multan; Employees Cooperative Society, Gujranwala; Employees Cooperative Society Ltd; Faisalabad; Employees Cooperative Society Ltd; Sargodha; Employees Cooperative Society Ltd; Sheikhupura; Employees Cooperative Society Ltd; Kasur; Employees Cooperative Society Ltd; Peshawar; Employees Cooperative Society Ltd; Quetta; Workers and Officers Cooperative Society, Karachi; Hyderabad; Employees Cooperative Society, KIP; Karachi; Employees Cooperative Society, (Southern Zone); WAPDA City Faisalabad; and WAPDA City Gujranwala.
