Waqar Younis assumes his new position at the PCB.
The chairman has designated Waqar to supervise all matters pertaining to cricket. His first task will be the forthcoming home Test series against Bangladesh.
In preparation for the Test series, which is set to begin on August 21, the former head coach will work with the selectors and coaches.
For those who don’t know, rumours surfaced on Tuesday stating that Waqar Younis will now have the authority to make cricket-related decisions instead of PCB Mohsin Naqvi.
The sources added that Waqar would be in charge of all decisions pertaining to domestic and international selection committees, players’ No Objection Certificates (NOCs), and other significant cricket-related concerns, while Naqvi would handle just the administrative duties.
At the moment, Naqvi is concentrating on the logistical problems associated with the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, which Pakistan is set to host.
The PCB Constitution 2014 states that the chairman may assign authority to another person, which permits Waqar to receive power.
Before he retired in 2003, Waqar was the bowling coach and head coach of the Pakistan cricket team.
However, sources say that Mohsin Naqvi will take over as the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) new president for a two-year term.
