Without eliminating the root causes of strife, peace is impossible: PM

According to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a lasting peace cannot be achieved unless the root causes of conflict—such as poverty, human rights violations, and rising intolerance—are eradicated.
“Today, conflicts and injustices around the world are threatening the future of humanity,” he said in a statement on Sunday, which is International Peace Day. This day is a sobering reminder that each person and nation has a personal and societal responsibility to advance peace.
“Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the lofty principles of peace and justice on the occasion of the International Day of Peace,” he remarked.
Peace needs to be promoted and protected by robust international organizations. In line with the United Nations Charter, the world community must reaffirm its dedication to peaceful dispute resolution,” he added.
We cannot overlook the serious humanitarian catastrophes occurring in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir and the occupied Palestinian territories when contemplating the genuine meaning of peace. “Permanent peace will remain a dream until the people of these regions are given the right to self-determination in compliance with Security Council resolutions,” he emphasized.
“Pakistan is proud to have played a significant role in establishing world peace,” the prime minister stated. Pakistan’s efforts to advance peace and stability in conflict-torn areas of the world include its decades-long involvement in UN peacekeeping deployments and its provision of humanitarian aid to impacted populations.
He said, “Let us all commit to taking constructive and coordinated action on this International Day of Peace; silence the weapons that kill innocent people; restore faith in diplomacy, and resolve conflicts through peaceful means.”
