Workplace harassment hinders women’s advancement in their careers: Justice Mansoor

The Supreme Court’s senior puisne judge, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, stated that workplace harassment hinders women’s advancement in both their careers and their finances.

The Supreme Court heard the appeal of a woman accused of harassment to overturn the decision to place her on forced retirement on Thursday.

Before the court, the accused appealed for his employment to be reinstated.

The case was decided in detail by a two-member bench led by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.

According to the court judgment, Pakistan is ranked 145th out of 146 nations in the Global Gender Gap Index.

Dr. Sidra Zafar filed a harassment complaint with the Punjab Ombudsman against her driver.

Muhammad Din, the driver, was charged with harassment for both his remarks and his acts.

He attempted to disparage Dr. Sidra by recording her when she was doing a patient’s ultrasound.

The driver was placed on forced retirement by the Punjab Ombudsman, and the Lahore High Court later upheld the decision.

“A person’s independence and self-respect are undermined by workplace harassment,” the SC noted.
