200,000 Afghans departed from Pakistan following a deportation initiative.

Over 200,000 Afghans have departed from Pakistan since the government reinstated a deportation initiative in April.

The interior ministry reported that around 135,000 Afghans exited Pakistan in April, approximately 67,000 in May, and more than 3,000 were repatriated in the initial two days of June.

The influx of returnees has diminished in anticipation of the upcoming Eid al-Adha festival, however some Afghans continued to traverse the primary border crossings from Pakistan on Wednesday.

Pakistan is now threatening to lift the protection granted to the 1.3 million Afghans holding refugee cards issued by the UNHCR at the end of June.
