The PM instructs officials to link Reko Diq to the railway system.

Reko Diq must be connected to the national railway network by 2028, according to a directive issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to discuss Pakistan Railways’ upgrade and expansion to Reko Diq.

A briefing on future freight and transportation requirements was part of the discussion, with an emphasis on Pakistan Railways’ growth, particularly the modernization of ML-1 and ML-3.

In order to secure funding for the railway’s upgrade and extension to Reko Diq, the prime minister directed the establishment of an interministerial committee. The committee will give Reko Diq specific recommendations on the funding needed for Pakistan Railways’ growth and development.

As an economical, quick, and eco-friendly form of transportation, Pakistan Railways is the foundation of the nation’s economy and communication system, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He went on to say that connecting Reko Diq to the railway system would help the mining and minerals industry in Balochistan grow and give the locals additional job possibilities.

Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, Minister of State for Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar were among the high-ranking government officials who attended the meeting.
