Microsoft brings a lawsuit against spyware that steals information. The Lumma Stealer

Following the discovery of roughly 400,000 Windows machines worldwide infected with the information-stealing virus in the previous two months, Microsoft (MSFT.O) announced on Wednesday that its Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) had launched a lawsuit against Lumma Stealer last week.

The business claimed in a blog that Lumma can install further malware and steal data from a variety of browsers and apps, including cryptocurrency wallets.

Through a court order from the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Georgia, Microsoft’s DCU assisted in the “takedown, suspension, and blocking of malicious domains that formed the backbone of Lumma’s infrastructure,” according to the blog.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice said that it had taken control of five domains that were being used by malevolent cyber actors to run the malware service LummaC2, which steals information. The situation is being looked into by the FBI’s Dallas Field Office.

In a different blog post about the malware, Microsoft stated, “The growth and resilience of Lumma Stealer highlight the broader evolution of cybercrime and underscores the need for layered defences and industry collaboration to counter threats.”
