According to Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN, systematic repression of the people of Jammu and Kashmir persists.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, stated on Friday that the illegal Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir still results in systematic brutality and persecution against its citizens.
Ambassador Iftikhar harshly criticised India’s actions in the disputed region while speaking at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts. He also claimed that India is actively working to illegally change the demographic makeup of Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted that, in line with UN Security Council decisions, the Kashmiri people are still yearning for the right to self-determination. In order to guarantee the safety of populations in war areas, he demanded swift and decisive international action.
Ambassador Iftikhar also underlined the urgent need for international accountability and action, urging the Security Council to act quickly in response to the recent attacks on Gazan hospitals.
