Shaheen Afridi selected captain of the PSL X team

Shaheen Shah Afridi, who lead Lahore Qalandars to their third title in four years in the PSL last night, has been appointed captain of the PSL X Team.

The team was chosen by the distinguished members of the commentary team.

The PSL X occurred in four cities—Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi—from April 11 to May 25. In the final, Qalandars triumphed over Quetta Gladiators by six wickets at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Shaheen, at 25, not only secured the Fazal Mahmood Cap for being the highest wicket-taker with 19 dismissals in 13 matches but also captains a side that includes two of his Qalandars colleagues. Sikandar Raza (11 matches, 254 runs, 2 fifties, 10 wickets) and Fakhar Zaman (13 matches, 439 runs, 4 fifties) secured their positions due to exceptional performances in the tournament.

The Gladiators, champions of the 2019 PSL edition, are also represented by three players. Hasan Nawaz, a 23-year-old Pakistan international and the tournament’s best batsman (12 matches, 399 runs, 1 century, 3 half-centuries), is accompanied by seasoned all-rounder Faheem Ashraf (12 matches, 163 runs, 17 wickets) and 27-year-old spinner Abrar Ahmed (12 matches, 17 wickets).

Karachi Kings, having attained third position on the points table, were defeated by Qalandars in Eliminator 1 on 22 May at Gaddafi Stadium, and they too have three representatives. Captain David Warner (11 matches, 368 runs, 3 fifties), opening partner James Vince (378 runs, 1 century, 3 fifties), and bowler Hasan Ali (10 matches, 17 wickets) are all included in the XI. Khushdil Shah (11 matches, 253 runs, 1 fifty, seven wickets) has been designated as the 12th man.

Sahibzada Farhan of Islamabad United, who received the Hanif Mohammad Cap for topping the run statistics with 449 runs in 12 matches (including 1 century and 3 half-centuries), is the only representative from his team. Completing the roster is Peshawar Zalmi’s burgeoning prospect, fast bowler Ali Raza, who secured 12 wickets in nine matches.
