In the Kaghan Valley, an unexpected cold snap occurs.

BALAKOT: The consequences of climate change are probably to blame for the unusual weather patterns currently occurring in the Kaghan Valley.

In contrast to the previous year, the high mountains in the area experienced snowmelt in April. Snowfall by the end of May made the weather feel like January.

Temperatures have plummeted following over three inches of snowfall on Babusar Top and the adjacent valleys, while significant rainfall in lower areas has caused streams and rivers to flow more freely. For the next three days, this weather trend is predicted to persist.

The highest parts of the Kaghan Valley experienced snowfall yesterday as a result of heavy rainfall that started in the Balakot area and the adjacent areas.

Temperatures have therefore dropped, making May feel more like January. A cold wave has returned to the valley, and the snowfall is still coming in spurts, with Babusar Top receiving up to three inches of snow. Temperatures had noticeably increased when the snow on the mountains in the Kaghan Valley melted in April, but yesterday’s snow and rain significantly altered the weather.

The Kaghan Valley’s four seasons—summer, winter, spring, and autumn—seem to be affected, and changes in weather patterns amply demonstrate how climate change is having an influence.

In addition to the Kaghan Valley, Pakistan may lose its unique seasons if prompt action is not done to resolve this issue.

According to local specialists in the Kaghan Valley, the climatic change in the area is caused by a number of variables. Forest fires and uncontrolled building are major causes.

Temperature increases are caused by fires in the valley’s woodlands, but unrestrained construction—especially the growth of cement structures—is also raising the temperature.

All four of Pakistan’s natural seasons may be in jeopardy if immediate steps are not made to counteract these changes.
