Health officials are concerned as Pakistan fights the debilitating disease after Gilgit-Baltistan reported its first polio case of the year.

A two-year-old child from the Diamer district has tested positive for the poliovirus, according to health officials. The virus was proven to be present in laboratory tests by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

With this additional incidence, there have now been 11 polio cases documented in Pakistan in 2025.

As attempts to eradicate the disease from the nation continue, health officials are advising parents to make sure their children receive polio immunisations.
