The Pakistani delegation informs the OIC on serious events in South Asia that jeopardise peace.

A senior Pakistani parliamentary delegation, headed by PPP Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, informed members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the UN about the serious developments in South Asia following India’s military aggression and its unfounded allegations against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam attack.

In a statement to the OIC Permanent Representatives, Bilawal unequivocally dismissed India’s efforts to associate Pakistan with the Pahalgam tragedy, citing the absence of serious enquiry or evidence, as reported by the Pakistan Mission to the UN.

He emphasised that the rapid assignment of culpability served as a justification for illegal military operations, including cross-border assaults that affected civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Bilawal articulated profound apprehension regarding the unilateral abrogation of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, which Pakistan perceives as a flagrant act of weaponizing water and a breach of international and treaty commitments. He asserted that Pakistan cannot permit this to become a new norm. He emphasised that India’s hostile aggression has rendered the world a less secure environment, with tangible and immediate consequences for peace and security in South Asia.

The former foreign minister expressed gratitude to the OIC nations for their endeavours and contributions towards de-escalation, mediation, and truce. He emphasised that the sole avenue to peace is through communication, engagement, and diplomacy. He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to peace, restraint, and diplomacy, advocating for the reinstatement of the Indus Waters Treaty, complete adherence to the ceasefire, and the initiation of extensive engagement with India, centred on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir conflict.

The delegation leader emphasised that the OIC has become the moral compass of the globe during these challenging times and expressed gratitude to the OIC member states for their unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasised that the Jammu and Kashmir conflict is crucial for achieving enduring peace in South Asia.

He urged the OIC member states to continue their principled support for the legitimate rights of the Kashmiri people, particularly their right to self-determination as enshrined in UN Security Council resolutions.

The Permanent Representatives of OIC nations conveyed gratitude for Pakistan’s clear and prompt briefing and reiterated their support for Pakistan and the inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir, as stated in the press release. They reiterated their concern over the worsening security situation in South Asia and stressed the importance of upholding the principles of the UN Charter and international law, and in this regard, the sanctity of treaties, including the Indus Water Treaty.

The OIC nations endorsed Pakistan’s dedication to discussion and diplomacy for resolving all conflicts, including the Jammu and Kashmir issue, in alignment with UN Security Council resolutions.
