Multiple inmates flee during Malir jailbreak; three FC personnel sustain injuries from gunfire.

A prisoner was fatally wounded and three Frontier Corps personnel sustained injuries during a jailbreak in Malir, as reported by Dunya News late Monday night.

The inmates seized firearms from the officers and discharged them. During the shooting, one prisoner was deceased and five sustained injuries. Three FC staff were also injured in the shootouts.

Approximately 73 inmates were apprehended from various locations. Nine individuals were also taken into custody by the police.

SSP Malir reported that 500 to 600 inmates attempted to flee from the Malir District Jail. More than 100 detainees escaped, with 73 subsequently recovered, and a search for the other escapees is ongoing, according to the SSP.

The Sindh Prison Minister, Ali Hassan, has acknowledged the escape of inmates from Malir Jail and requested a report from the Inspector General of Prisons and the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons. He instructed that the area be secured.

The Prison Minister stated that the escaped inmate must be apprehended at all means, and the personnel responsible for the negligence in the incident would be identified.

HOME MINISTER, PLEASE TAKE NOTICE

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar visited the District Malir Jail to obtain information regarding the incident from the jail authorities. He instructed the SSP Malir to promptly communicate with the Malir Jail Police and conduct a search for the escaped inmates.

He also gave directives to apprehend the escaped prisoners through meticulously organised and efficient actions at the district level.

The minister stated that all actions must be effectively executed through blockade, reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence, and that all requisite steps should be implemented.

SEISMIC EVENTS

Ziaul Hassan Lanjar stated that the continuous earthquakes had induced worry among the inmates. Karachi Jail DIG Muhammad Hassan stated that during the earthquake, numerous detainees exited the barracks, subsequently breaching the prison gate and fleeing. DIG Prison said that a count of the prisoners in the prison will be conducted, after which it will be known how many prisoners have escaped.

RANGERS, FOOTBALL CLUB ACTIVITIES

He stated that the District Police, Rangers, and FC executed prompt action. During the operation, three FC personnel and two police officers sustained injuries and were transported to a private hospital by a concealed ambulance.

KARACHI PUT ON HIGH ALERT

Police authorities report that law enforcement in Karachi has been placed on heightened alert, with an increase in patrols around the city.

DG Rangers Sindh Major General Muhammad Shamrez reached Malir Jail. Senior Rangers and police officials were also present in the jail, while the jail authorities briefed the DG Rangers on the incident.

INTENSE GUNFIRE REPORTED

According to earlier report, an intense firing near the jail has been reported. A wall of the jail has collapsed, according to Malir SSP. Both sides of National Highway have been closed for traffic. Rangers and police have reached the spot and launched a search operation for the arrest of the fleeing prisoners.

The wall of the prison developed cracks after earthquake, which later fell. Firing near the jail created panic in the vicinity. Police and rangers have cordoned off the surrounding areas.

Police have set up barricades in different areas and started checking people to arrest the fleeing prisoners.

Police say that the earthquake caused cracks in the walls of the prison barracks, and some prisoners escaped by breaking through the prison walls.
