The veto of the Gaza ceasefire resolution sent a perilous message: Pakistan

Pakistan has stated that the veto of the Gaza ceasefire resolution by the UN Security Council will communicate a perilous message.

A proposed resolution advocating for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza was rejected by the UN Security Council on Wednesday when the United States exercised its veto, obstructing the motion supported by all 10 elected Council members.

During the UN Security Council meeting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar stated that the conditions in Gaza are more dire than hell.

Over 54,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. This is not merely a humanitarian concern; it is a tragedy for humanity. The situation in Gaza is worse, he stated.

Asim Iftikhar stated that Israel persistently contravenes international laws and endeavors to displace Palestinians from their homeland, asserting that Pakistan will unwaveringly back the Palestinian populace.

He stated that Pakistan will consistently advocate for food assistance in Gaza, noting that the Security Council’s inability to achieve a ceasefire will be historically significant.

The United States exercised its veto power against the Gaza ceasefire resolution. The United States underlined that any actions detrimental to Israel’s security are intolerable, affirming Israel’s right to vanquish Hamas and avert its resurgence as a danger.
