The Chief Minister advocates for the conservation of the Indus delta.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated on Tuesday that water is essential for life, and safeguarding natural resources is a shared obligation.

In a statement commemorating “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought,” CM Sindh emphasised that June 17 serves as a platform to promote awareness on the elements contributing to land degradation, escalating drought conditions, and environmental impact.

The provincial administration is undertaking initiatives such as afforestation, rainwater collection, and advanced water management to avert desertification. CM Shah said that failure to allow the Indus River’s water to reach the sea could result in the obliteration of our coastline region.

He emphasised that preserving the natural flow of the Indus River is crucial for sustaining the Indus Delta. The chief minister stated that lower riparian rights are acknowledged internationally in relation to environmental justice.

He stated that guaranteeing water access to the Indus delta is a matter of environmental justice to safeguard the land, ecosystem, and livelihoods.
