The Punjab government’s requests for Imran Khan’s physical remand are denied by the SC.

The Punjab government’s requests for the physical remand of former prime minister Imran Khan were denied by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which ruled that the detention was no longer necessary because it had been 1.5 years since his arrest.
“The question of physical remand no longer arises because it has been more than 18 months since the accused’s arrest,” said Justice Hashim Kakar, who was leading the bench.
The court stated that Imran Khan’s legal team would have the right to challenge any such plea, and that the Punjab government could still go to the trial court if it still wanted to pursue the case.
The Punjab Prosecutor General contended during the court that the government requested physical remand so that Khan could undergo voice-matching, polygraphic, and photogrammetric testing.
Justice Hashim Kakar, however, noted that the initial request was not for the specified tests but rather for physical remand.
“Such tests are not even carried out in cases of murder or rape,” said Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, raising doubts about the need for such procedures. We hope that when it comes to the average citizen, the government will be just as efficient.
