The court has granted a one-day exemption to Parvez Elahi in the matter concerning appointments in the Punjab Assembly.

An anti-corruption court in Lahore on Wednesday granted a one-day exemption request for former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi over the matter of purported unlawful appointments in the Punjab Assembly.

At the hearing, Elahi’s attorney, Amir Saeed Raan, informed the court that his client was unwell and had been prescribed total rest by physicians, demanding a one-day exemption from attendance. The court approved the request following the examination of the arguments.

Concurrently, co-defendants, including Muhammad Khan Bhatti, presented themselves before the court and recorded their attendance. The court allowed the co-accused additional time to secure legal representation and postponed the hearing.

The judge mandated the submission of power of attorney documents at the subsequent hearing, after which a formal trial date will be established. The Anti-Corruption Lahore has presented the challan to the court.
