Reservoir levels increase following substantial rainfall.

A deluge of rain early Wednesday morning alleviated the extreme heat in the twin towns of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, resulting in decreased temperatures and the cessation of humidity.

The weather became agreeable, and water levels in subterranean reservoirs and significant dams, such as Rawal and Khanpur, have increased.

The Meteorological Department has predicted additional rainfall, leading the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to announce a rain emergency.

The torrential rain caused the water level in Nullah Leh to surge to 12 feet. Water infiltrated low-lying regions, including sections of Murree Road.

The WASA teams, utilizing heavy machinery, were aggressively conducting water drainage works. Rainfall in the twin cities surpassed 82 millimeters, with Saidpur village in Islamabad recording the maximum at 82 millimeters.

Additional locations documented: Golra 25mm, Bokra 68mm, PMD 33mm, Shamsabad 56mm, Chaklala 53mm, and Pirwadhai 53mm. The water level of Nullah Leh exceeded 12 feet at Katarian Bridge and 10 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge, but commenced a rapid decline following the cessation of rainfall.

Subsequent to the rainfall, Member of the National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema, and WASA Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf inspected the Gawalmandi Bridge to evaluate the circumstances.

Doctor of Medicine WASA observed that the water traversed Nullah Leh swiftly due to prompt cleaning initiatives and stated that it remained on high alert in alignment with the meteorological department’s predictions. Staff leave was revoked, and people operating machines were assigned to low-lying regions.

The Managing Director of WASA is directly overseeing the drainage activities.

He additionally indicated that, pursuant to the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister, a rain emergency has been instituted.

Flood response camps have been established, staffed with personnel and equipment to handle any crisis. The surveillance of stormwater drains across the city persisted, and no overflow events were documented.

WASA teams were stationed across multiple affected areas including Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk, Nadeem Colony, Arya Mohalla, Murree Road, Jamia Masjid Road, Sadiqabad, and Old Airport.
