Parvez Elahi is greatly relieved that the LHC has suspended the NAB’s ruling in the graft case.

By overturning an accountability court ruling, the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench has given former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi significant relief.
While considering Elahi’s writ petition, the two-judge panel—which included Justices Shahram Sarwar and Sajid Mehmood Sethi—sent a notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The bench excluded him from making in-person appearances before the NAB court and suspended the accountability court’s order in the graft case.

Advocates Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan and Aamir Saeed Raan represented Elahi before the division bench of the High Court.
Elahi’s attorney contended during the hearing that the former chief minister is an elderly politician who is currently receiving medical care in Lahore for a health condition that makes it difficult for him to attend court on all hearing dates. The attorney argued that the trial court had illegally denied his request for a personal appearance exemption.
The NAB prosecutor was asked by Justice Shahram Sarwar why they were against giving Elahi an exemption. Elahi’s illness was not severe enough to justify such relief, the prosecutor retorted.
Following the preliminary hearing, the court suspended the accountability court’s previous ruling, granted the petition for regular proceedings, and sent notices to the NAB for a more thorough hearing.
