Pakistan reiterates its unwavering support for the people of Kashmir: PM

Pakistan reiterated its unwavering position and moral, political, and diplomatic support for its Kashmiri siblings till their fundamental right to self-determination is realized, according to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

“On this Youm-e-Istehsal, the Government of Pakistan and I reaffirm the unwavering solidarity of the Pakistani people with our Kashmiri sisters and brothers,” he said in a statement on the holiday, which is marked today, August 5.

In total disregard for international law, norms, and principles as well as the pertinent UN Security Council resolutions, he continued, “We once again express our strong condemnation and rejection of India’s illegal and unilateral actions taken since August 5, 2019, aimed at altering the demographic structure and political landscape of Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).”

A sobering reminder of India’s rejection of peace and stability and its pursuit of a policy of harshness and unilateralism, he remarked, is Youm-e-Istehsal. Regional instability is inevitable if Kashmiris living under India’s unlawful and unjustifiable occupation continue to be denied their fundamental human rights, dignity, and identity.

“India has doubled down on a nearly eight-decade regime of state terrorism and oppression, realizing that its illegal occupation cannot be sustained by any other means,” the prime minister stated.

“The courageous Kashmiri people have shown amazing dignity in the face of this cruelty. He said, “Today is a day for all Pakistanis and all people who value peace in the world to honor the Kashmiri people’s unwavering fortitude and heroic spirit of sacrifice.”

India’s unlawful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir is motivated by a broader hegemonic and extremist goal, which includes attempts to stifle the legitimate leadership of the Kashmiri people. He added, “The continued defiance of Kashmiris in an environment of unending intimidation across the illegal Indian occupation is further proof of the indomitable courage of the Kashmiri people.” He said that the imprisonment of Kashmiri leaders and activists, such as Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and Masarrat Alam Bhatt, would never weaken the resolve of our Kashmiri sisters and brothers.

According to him, “India’s unlawful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir continues to be the central conflict in South Asia and the cause of India’s persistent rogue behavior.” Only the most recent example of the urgent necessity for the world community to make sure that the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict becomes a global priority is India’s unprovoked attack against Pakistan in May 2025 and its rapid and thorough military defeat.

“The only way to achieve enduring peace in South Asia is to respect the will and aspirations of the Kashmiri people in line with UN Security Council resolutions,” he emphasized.

In his remarks, the prime minister urged the international community to urge India to stop its human rights violations in IIOJK, reverse its illegal and unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, repeal the harsh laws, and implement the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. He also reaffirmed that seeking a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains a key pillar of our foreign policy.
