Russia and Pakistan reaffirm their commitment to weapons control and global security.

On Wednesday, the 15th meeting of the Pakistan-Russia Consultative Group on Strategic Stability took place in Islamabad. The two sides restated their mutual dedication to weapons control and global security.

The delegations were led by Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs SA Ryabkov and Additional Foreign Secretary (Arms Control and Disarmament) Tahir Andrabi, the Foreign Office said in a news release.

The two delegations had in-depth conversations about non-proliferation, arms control, disarmament, and regional and international stability.

Key issues pertaining to the Conference on Disarmament, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, and the Conference on Disarmament were also discussed by officials from both sides.

The agenda also included emerging global security issues such international information security, the militarisation of space, and the defence implications of artificial intelligence.

Both sides expressed satisfaction at the meeting’s conclusion on the convergence of their points of view on a variety of areas.

Through bilateral interactions and cooperation at multilateral forums, they committed to maintaining tight coordination on strategic issues.

It was agreed upon that Moscow would host the Consultative Group’s 16th round in 2026.
