For a better justice system, CJP Afridi emphasizes judicial reforms.

During a visit to Bannu, Pakistan’s Chief Justice Yahya Afridi emphasized the importance of strengthening the justice delivery system through judicial reforms, greater legal education, and better institutional coordination.

The Chief Justice visited the Bannu Bench of the Peshawar High Court and showed support for judges working under difficult circumstances, according to a Supreme Court press statement. He underlined that the district judiciary’s independence is essential to guaranteeing that justice is administered effectively.

During his visit, Chief Justice Afridi met with Peshawar High Court Chief Justice S M Atiq Shah, and held detailed discussions on capacity-building initiatives for both the judiciary and the legal fraternity.

In his interactions with judges and representatives from several districts, he also discussed reforms in legal education and training, institutional cooperation, and enhancing judicial capability.

The Chief Justice emphasized the need for innovation and demanded that automation and artificial intelligence be quickly incorporated into the legal system.

He also promoted giving impoverished areas priority when allocating resources, as well as offering rewards and training opportunities to judges who serve in these areas.

CJP Afridi talked on the creation of training courses meant to improve attorneys’ practical abilities. In addition, he visited the local jail, hospital, and kitchen, where he spoke with prisoners and observed conditions firsthand. During the visit, he also inaugurated a drug rehabilitation centre.

On April 23, 2025, the Chief Justice met with Bahadur Khan, an inmate whose case had not been decided since 2019.

Justice Afridi apologized for the protracted hold-up in his case.

Underscoring the need for expeditious processing of legal matters, the Chief Justice instructed the District Police Officer to ensure timely submission of charge sheets. He also emphasized the pivotal role of District and Sessions Judges in maintaining an independent and secure judicial environment, which he deemed essential for delivering justice to the public.
