Bhowana was named the cleanest tehsil in Punjab.

Since sanitation activities were outsourced to private companies, the Faisalabad trash Management Company (FWMC) has eliminated approximately 615,400 tonnes of solid trash from 16 tehsils in the last six months.
Launched as part of the Punjab government’s “Suthra Punjab” campaign, the program aims to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and alter urban cleanliness standards.
To guarantee routine waste collection from homes and public areas, the corporation has deployed 5,199 waste containers, 3,014 pieces of machinery, and a workforce of more than 15,000 employees throughout the division, according to FWMC sources.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who authorized the outsourcing model for all eight waste management businesses in Punjab in November 2024, is spearheading the mammoth effort as part of a province-wide sanitation reform.
Tehsil Bhowana of District Chiniot ranked first out of 132 tehsils in the province in a half-yearly performance evaluation carried out by the Central Control Room of the Punjab Local Government Department.
Bhowana received praise for its excellent operational efficiency, high standards of sanitation, and prompt handling of public grievances. Tehsils Bahawalnagar and Jalalpur Pirwala in District Multan came in second and third, respectively.
26 tehsils were graded with average efficiency scores above 90 by the control room, which keeps an eye on key performance indicators such staff deployment, facial attendance, vehicle tracking, waste enclosure setup, complaint resolution, and tonnage collection.
Seven of these high-achieving tehsils—Jaranwala, Pir Mahal, Gojra, Kamalia, Chiniot, Lalian, and Toba Tek Singh—are part of the Faisalabad Division.
Performance monitoring, according to Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq, is essential to guaranteeing the initiative’s long-term viability. In order to ensure appropriate trash disposal and reduce environmental risks, he pointed out that the new system is intended to handle 60,000 tons of solid waste each day, whereas municipal organizations were previously only able to lift 28,000 tons.
Rafiq went on to say that the outsourcing model has produced over 100,000 jobs and that control rooms have been set up at the tehsil level.
Tehsil Bhowana’s first-place finish was attributed by FWMC Chief Executive Officer Rauf Ahmad to the diligence of the company’s field employees and the collaboration of the district and provincial governments.
