While the yen headed for a second consecutive week of losses ahead of Japan’s upper house election, Asian shares globally followed Wall Street higher on Friday as robust corporate earnings and still-strong U.S. economic data offset tariff concerns.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq closed at all-time highs overnight as U.S. data, such as retail sales and jobless claims, exceeded expectations, suggesting a slight improvement in the economy. This should allow the Federal Reserve to assess the impact of higher U.S. tariffs on inflation.

A weaker U.S. dollar helped streaming behemoth Netflix (NFLX.O) surpass Wall Street’s high expectations for second-quarter earnings. However, in after-hours trading, its share price dropped 1.8%, with analysts stating that a large portion of the growth had already been priced in.

The weekly gain reached 1.7% on Friday as MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside of Japan (.MIAPJ0000PUS) increased 0.8% to reach its highest level since late 2021.
