At the OIC, Pakistan brings up India’s threat to halt the IWT Indus Waters Treaty.

At the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission’s 25th session in Jeddah, Pakistan expressed concern about India’s threats to halt the Indus Waters Treaty and cut off Pakistan’s water supply.

Syed Fawad Sher, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the OIC, spoke at the session on “The Right to Water,” highlighting India’s unilateral actions with regard to the treaty.

He emphasised the importance of the right to water on a legal, moral, and social level, particularly for Pakistan, which is already experiencing acute water scarcity.

Sher cautioned that the region’s climate-related problems would worsen as a result of India’s strict posture. He reminded attendees that international voices have urged the continuation of the Indus Waters Treaty, and that OIC foreign ministers have already voiced their concern over India’s decision.

Sher underlined that in order to protect its water rights under the treaty, Pakistan will keep bringing up the matter on international forums.
