In two days, 21 people are killed by heavy monsoon spells that flood low-lying areas.

Low-lying areas are submerged as a result of the country’s ongoing, intense monsoon spell, which has seen light to heavy rainfall in several cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.
Heavy rain brought a welcome change in the weather to several parts of Lahore, including Garhi Shahu, Abbott Road, Mall Road, Islampura, Chauburji, Ichhra, Muslim Town, Model Town, Green Town, Nishtar Town, and Johar Town.
Heavy rains were also experienced in Gujranwala, Gujar Khan, and Multan, in Punjab. The heavy rains in Khanpur and Hazara caused streams to flood, flooding low-lying areas, while in Karak and the surrounding areas, the roads became virtual ponds.
Over the next 24 hours, Lahore and the majority of Punjab are expected to experience more intense monsoon rains, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The rainstorm is predicted to last until July 13, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
DEATHS
In Sheikhupura, two children lost their lives when the rain caused their home’s roof to collapse. Rescue crews in Pakpattan rescued four individuals who were buried beneath the debris of a house that had collapsed. Roads were destroyed and homes and cars were severely damaged in Gohraabad, Jhelum Valley, by a cloudburst.
Reports state that rain-related incidents in Punjab resulted in nine fatalities and numerous injuries.
Ten people lost their lives and seven were hurt in monsoon-related incidents in Balochistan. At Kundian, a low-level flood has formed in the Indus River, with an inflow of 373,800 cusecs recorded by Chashma Barrage.
RISE OF RIVERS
A nationwide alert for heavy rains, flooding, and possible landslides has been issued by the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) NEOC, and it is in effect until July 10. The Kabul, Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers are predicted to see an increase in water levels, and low-level flooding is anticipated along the Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa.
At Mangla on the Jhelum River and Marala and Khanki on the Chenab River, low-level flooding is also a concern. Flooding may also occur in the Swat and Panjkora rivers’ tributaries.
The hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, as well as the local streams in the Balochistani districts of Jhal Magsi, Kachhi, Sibi, Killa Saifullah, Zhob, and Musakhel, are predicted to experience a notable increase in water flow if the heavy rainfall continues.
