A high-level meeting to revive Pakistan hockey is chaired by Deputy PM Dar.

Islamabad: A critical meeting to evaluate the current status of hockey in Pakistan and develop plans for its resuscitation was chaired today by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar. The committee emphasized the pressing need for increased institutional support, ongoing development, and a renewed focus at all levels of the game, acknowledging hockey as the national sport.
Important government representatives attended the meeting, including the President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the Secretary of the IPC, the Minister for Information, and the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination. A comprehensive approach to the sport’s future was demonstrated by the participation of senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Pakistanis.
The government’s steadfast dedication to providing full support for hockey’s national and international promotion was reiterated by Deputy Prime Minister Dar. This coincides with worries about the sport’s decline in recent decades, which has been ascribed to a number of issues, including a lack of modern infrastructure and training, administrative instability, and a lack of financial incentives for players.
The talks emphasized how crucial it is to start hockey at the grassroots level, make sure that the right coaches are in place, and give Pakistani players international exposure. The government’s promise of unwavering support is viewed as a big step in bringing back Pakistan’s former dominance in the sport, which used to rule the world hockey scene.
