Sherry Rehman asserts that Pakistan is a peace-oriented and responsible nuclear power.

Senator Sherry Rehman, Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environment, stated on Wednesday that Pakistan is a peace-loving and responsible nuclear state, a narrative that is increasingly gaining international acknowledgment.
In her address during the Senate session, Sherry Rehman denounced India’s conduct over the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), asserting that no provision allows for unilateral suspension. “Employing water as a tool of warfare establishes a perilous precedent,” she cautioned.
Senator Sherry Rehman stated, “We did not initiate conflict; employing water as a weapon is unprecedented in global history.”
She stated that all parties together advocated for Pakistan’s position when India attempted to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. She stated that our doors are open for discussions. She stated that we advocate for peace rather than conflict.
Sherry Rehman highlighted that Pakistan has just been designated as the most climate-vulnerable nation worldwide, based on international evaluations. This is a concerning development. “We must respond appropriately,” she emphasized.
She condemned the substantial decrease in the environmental protection budget, which has been cut from Rs 7.2 billion to Rs 3.1 billion. In a nation confronting severe weather and ecological emergencies, reducing the climate budget is imprudent, she asserted.
