More than 58,000 police officers were sent to Punjab for the 8th Muharram security.

Lahore: To provide unwavering security for the majalis and mourning processions on the eighth day of Muharram, Punjab Police stationed more than 58,000 officers and staff throughout the province.

A police spokesperson stated that more than 3,600 police officers would be on duty in Lahore alone. A total of 1,365 mourning processions and 3,940 majalis were being held province-wide,including 86 processions and 416 majalis in the provincial capital. Additionally, more than 27,000 volunteers from the community were helping to keep the religious gatherings in order.

Inspector General(IG) of Police,Punjab Dr.Usman Anwar said that a high-alert security posture was being maintained throughout Ashra Muharram. Strict enforcement of Section 144, which forbade hate speech, incitement to violence, aerial firing, and the display of weapons, was in place.

Additionally, IG ordered strict action against those who spread hate speech, including on social media, and directed full enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act.
