Gilani demands that the underlying causes of terrorism be addressed.

Yousuf Raza Gilani, the chairman of the Senate, has highlighted the importance of tackling the underlying causes of terrorism.
Speaking to a tribal jirga from the combined districts, he said that law and order problems are currently plaguing many nations worldwide. He noted that military operations in Malakand, Swat, and South Waziristan were carried out after stakeholder consultation during his time as prime minister.
Gilani went on to say that Pakistan has been hardest hit by terrorism and that the unrest in Afghanistan caused a flood of refugees to enter the nation. He underlined that although the international community failed to bear the burden of Afghan refugees, Pakistan conducted military operations in a transparent manner.
He added that during his premiership, he gave Malala Yousafzai a peace prize that was later acknowledged all over the world, and three years later, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
He claimed that after speaking with all parties involved, operations were carried out in South Waziristan, Swat, and Malakand, displacing 2.5 million people. They were rehabilitated in ninety days, nevertheless.
Gilani reaffirmed that fairness, not only the lack of conflict, is what constitutes peace. The government is in charge of maintaining national harmony. He emphasised that Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan and India today face the most urgent problems.
He said that the contributions made by the people in the tribal districts are indelible and commended their sacrifices. He stated that he himself comes from South Punjab, which likewise experiences unemployment and poverty, and that development in these areas is a top concern. He called on the government to give the indigenous people’s justifiable requests some attention.
Gilani gave the audience his word that the voices of the poor in the tribal areas would not be ignored.
